Waste Stream Audit / LEED Assistance

Do you know how much you throw away in a day? We do. When we conduct a waste audit, we will identify exactly how much and what kind of garbage and recycling moves through your waste stream. Our complete waste stream audit report will identify ways that you can divert waste from landfills, including recycled material brokerage, and improving your office recycling practices. For those in the process of becoming LEED certified, the waste stream audit fulfills MR Credit 6 of LEED ED: O & M (1 point). No matter the reason, conducting a waste audit is a step in the right direction towards helping the planet.

Benefits of Our Waste Stream Audit

Our Waste Stream Audit Process:

Collect

Twelve sample collection containers or “meese carts” are provided by Recycling Services. Six meese carts are for recyclables; six are for garbage. Our straight truck will drop the containers at your dock on the audit day and pick them up the following day. Your building’s recyclables and garbage are collected by your cleaning staff during the audit day and dumped into the appropriate meese carts. The meese carts are then brought to our plant for analysis.

Separate

When the material arrives at our plant, it is separated and sorted. A detailed grading system is used to determine the material types within your garbage and recycling loads and each material type is weighed. All grade and weight information for each load is then entered into our computer system

Analyze

Our customized software captures all necessary data to begin our calculation process. We will determine your actual diversion rate, potential diversion rate, and contamination rate. We will assess the amount of waste material and type that could have been diverted from landfills.

Report back

After the calculation process is complete, we will generate a comprehensive report for you. The report will include the statistics about your building’s waste stream. It will also contain suggestions on steps to improve recycling, waste diversion, waste reduction, and source reduction. A Recycling Services representative will meet with you to review your waste audit results.
